Dan Smythe (Col class of ’79, Darden class of ’84), President
A lifelong hockey player, Dan played in Charlottesville in the mid-1970s while attending UVA. After a 30+ year career in finance in Boston, Dan returned to Charlottesville in 2017 working in the non-profit space, and is still in search of a place to play his favorite game. Dan is the Chief Investment Officer of Virginia Public Media, headquartered in Richmond.

Roger Voisinet, Co-President
Roger served as the head coach of the UVA men’s ice hockey team from 1995 to 2010, during which time the team achieved remarkable success, winning seven ACCHL championships. In 2014, he made history as the inaugural coach elected to the ACCHL Hall of Fame. Additionally, in 2010, he was a member of a small investment group that acquired the Charlottesville Ice Park and rebranded it as the Main Street Arena. Before all these accomplishments, Roger had a significant role in the establishment of the first hockey team at Miami University (OH) in 1967. He actively advocated for the construction of an on-campus ice arena, which ultimately led to the creation of the Goggin Ice Center, a venue that has been in operation for over 51 years. Since 1988, Roger has been an associate broker at REMAX REALTY Specialists, specializing in residential and commercial real estate.

Kareem El-Alaily (Engr class of ’98), Secretary
Kareem founded the modern incarnation of the Virginia Ice Hockey team, serving as its first President and Captain in 1994–95. He played four years with the team, guiding it through its early period of success in the 1990s. He went on to serve as Commissioner of the ACC Hockey League from 1999 to 2002, during which he advised numerous men’s and women’s regional college programs in their startup phases and helped to expand club hockey in the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast regions. Kareem currently works as an operating partner and restructuring expert for private equity firms.

Tom Hillgrove (Com class of ’78), Vice President
Tom graduated from UVA in 1977 from the McIntire School of Commerce. In 1999, he founded Rink Management Services Corporation, a turnkey facility management company specializing in the ice rink industry. It grew to operate 26 sheets of ice in 17 states and D.C. with 1675 employees. The company’s clients included the University of Nebraska Lincoln, Boston Properties, Chicago Park District, Indianapolis Pacers, City of Manassas, MetroParks Toledo, Chicago Cubs, and Bryant Park Corporation. The Bank of America Winter Village at Bryant Park Ice Rink was the highest volume outdoor rink in the United States, hosting more than 308,000 skaters in a 129-day season. Tom has served on the USA Hockey Adult Council since 1999 and was a three-time Director of United States Ice Rink Association.

Keith Rosenfeld (Col class of ’79), Treasurer
Keith graduated from UVA in 1979 as an Echols Scholar and co-founded companies in audio electronics and medical software. He played defense on the UVA teams of 1975-77 and later became the Referee-In-Chief for the ACC Hockey League. Keith helped grow the ACCHL from 8 teams to 60+ and has served as RIC for the ACHA D2 national championship. He is now dedicated to bringing a permanent home rink to UVA for hockey players and figure skaters of all ages. Recently, Keith co-founded a startup that is bringing a secure A.I. platform to key industries.
