Virginia Ice Sports leaders and friends, including Rebecca Ivins, Misty Parsons, MJ Arquette, Ryan Chambers, Dan Smythe, Keith Rosenfeld, Tommy Garland, Roger Voisinet, Waki Wynn and Ethan Conrad, visited Liberty University’s LaHaye Ice Arena on September 8, 2026.
Chris Lowes, the coach of the National Champion Women’s ACHA D1 team was our host again. Lowes related how LaHaye was built in 2005 from a generous $4.5M donation from a Liberty alumnus and supporter. Lowed told us that Rink Management Services operated LaHaye for the first three years of operation. After one year, they felt they had already outgrown the 55,000 square foot, 2,000 seat arena, and plans were underway for a $11M renovation to increase the seating to 3200, plus 500 standing room, and greatly expand the lockers, storage, meeting rooms, pro shop, concessions and offices for the management of all 20 of Liberty’s non-varsity sports.
We will plan another trip to see a women’s game, followed by a men’s game, sometime this season. Lowes said that they visited Miami University’s Goggin Ice Arena when they were designing LaHaye. You can watch a drone fly-through of the Goggin Ice Arena on YouTube.
