I’m writing to provide you with an update on the North Fork Ice Arena project. We’re working on various fronts, and all efforts are supporting and enhancing each other.
- Five of us had a lengthy discussion with four NHL vice presidents in New York City. At the end of the hour, they expressed their keen interest in our project. They are looking at visiting UVA in September, and they offered assistance with fundraising.
- JLG Architects, our architects from Minneapolis, will present their final set of floor plans, elevations, and renderings as part of their Site Plan and Feasibility Study, commissioned by the UVA Foundation and funded by Virginia Ice Sports, Inc.
- The University of Virginia Foundation (UVAF) and Virginia Ice Sports (VIS) have hired AC Marketing, led by MJ Arquette and Ryan Chambers, and Watermark Design to work on brand creation and fundraising presentations.
- UVAF has hired Ayers Saint Gross Campus Planning to complete a short two-month master plan study of the area behind Town Center 4, where the future arena will be built. The purpose of this study is to explore the possibility of constructing a hotel and other assets simultaneously with the arena.
- Eight of us from UVAF and VIS visited the newly-opened Richmond Ice Box, designed by JLG. A group of us will visit Liberty’s arena in early September.
- We’ve added three outstanding supporters to the newly formed Board of Ambassadors, which will serve as an adjunct to the Board of Directors of VIS. We plan to continue growing this group.
Stay tuned to our website for all news and developments. Please feel free to contact us at any time to see how you may assist us in this important undertaking.
Roger Voisinet, on behalf of the Board of Directors of Virginia Ice Sports
