June 2026 Update

On June 6, 2026, UVA Ice Sports board members Dan Smythe (Col class of ’79, Darden class of ’84), Keith Rosenfeld (Col ’79), and Roger Voisinet, along with Joe Celantano (VMDO Architects), met with alumni and supporters at Newcomb Hall during the UVA Alumni Association’s Reunions weekend. We had an enjoyable hour discussing the North Fork Ice Arena project, which is being developed by JLG Architects. We shared posters made by JLG’s team. Additionally, we distributed a one-page handout and business cards to audience members. The board is dedicated to facilitating close communication among leadership, alumni, and supporters of Virginia Ice Sports.

Mark Andrews (Educ class of ’83) of Therapeutic Adventures, a nonprofit adaptive sports educational organization, gave a brief talk about USA Sled hockey. We are developing plans for the North Fork Ice Arena to alter ice surface and dasher boards for USA Sled Hockey and similar programs.

About 25 guests were in attendance, including former UVA hockey players, current UVA figure skaters, family of alumni, Main Street Arena athletes, and current men’s hockey coach Kyle Sennott. Board members recognized some in the audience, but were also excited about establishing new connections. If you were at the event – or would like to attend future events – we welcome you to reach out to UVA Ice Sports Co-President Roger Voisinet at roger@cvilleproperties.com to introduce yourself. We’d love to meet you!

This was a positive first public event, and we only regret not having any photos to show the group.
