About

Virginia Rowing represents the University of Virginia at races all over the United States and even in Europe. It recruits high school athletes as well as on-Grounds athletes. Those recruits range from high school rowers who have won scholastic national rowing championships to those who arrive on Grounds having never seen a rowing shell.

The 70 team members train six days a week, from the beginning of classes in the fall until after the end of classes in the spring. The team does its winter-break training in Charlottesville at home, usually one week before the start of classes in the Spring Semester. The spring racing season usually begins the week after the spring break training camp.

Our exciting spring racing schedule will build up into our two Championship events: the Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association (SIRA) Championships and the American Collegiate Rowing Association (ACRA) National Championship. Every other summer, on odd years, we compete at the oldest, most prestigious event, the Henley Royal Regatta, in England.
