At Alpha Tau Omega’s 87th National Congress this summer, the Delta chapter was awarded True Merit, the fraternity’s highest chapter honor. Delta was one of 30 chapters selected nationwide. Worthy Master, Tucker Meeks (Engr class of ’27) and Vice President, Andrew Spinnanger (Engr class of ’28) (Beta Iota), accepted the award on behalf of the chapter.
True Merit is not an award for a single strong semester; it recognizes sustained performance across the disciplines that define a functioning chapter: new member recruitment, community service, philanthropy, alumni relations, financial literacy, demonstration of the Ritual, and social and community engagement. A chapter must be operating well on every front at once to qualify.
Delta qualified on the strength of two years of results: membership growth of over 400% and an average of 40 hours of community service per member over the same period.
Recognition on this scale traces directly back to the alumni base. The financial support that put the actives back in 125 Chancellor is the same support that made recruiting, philanthropy, and chapter operations possible at the level the national fraternity just rewarded. Worthy Master Meeks put it plainly in his report to the chapter:
“Thank you for all of your unwavering support throughout the years of hardship. Your sacrifices of time, effort, and finances have elevated Delta as one of the strongest ATO chapters nationwide.”
Adding to our collective accolades, brother JP Hoffman (Com class of ’26) was named a Thomas Arkle Clark Fellow, an honor shared by only five ATO students nationwide. The Thomas Arkle Clark recognition is reserved for the fraternity’s most accomplished graduating seniors, drawn from chapters across the country, and it weighs academic achievement, professionalism, and service to the chapter. JP earned it over four years at the University. He is also not an outlier—recognition like this is what happens when you fill a house with men of his caliber, and this house is full of them.
The actives are treating True Merit as a standard to hold rather than a trophy to shelve. In Tucker’s words, the job is not finished. Delta intends to qualify again next year.
