Instead we spend camp time delving into the minutiae of effective training in a way that most high school programs simply cannot, due to time and other constraints.<\/p>\n<p>Every athlete will learn the differences between:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"color: #333333\">Rowing a seat in a shell versus becoming a true boat mover<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #333333\">Being a participant at team practices versus becoming a true athlete who is deeply invested in his physiological, technical, and mental progress<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: right\"><span style=\"color: #000000\"><strong><q>&#8220;Our son got a tremendous amount out of the camp, and I can&#8217;t thank you and the rest of the staff enough. He is passionate about rowing, and I&#8217;m sure it&#8217;s the best thing that has happened to him.&#8221;<\/q><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right\"><span style=\"color: #000000\"><em><strong>-Parent of a Camper<\/strong><\/em><strong style=\"font-family: 'Droid Serif', serif;font-size: 17px;letter-spacing: 0.2px\">\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #232d4b\"><strong>SPECIFICS<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Camp size is limited to roughly 20 athletes in order to ensure a good athlete-to-coach ratio and to provide as individualized a program as possible.<\/li>\n<li>Each athlete\u2019s development is equally important to the coaches, regardless of the camper\u2019s age, size, current abilities, or potential.<\/li>\n<li>Each athlete will row both sweep and sculling shells, often get the chance to choose the actual boat they\u2019ll row at each practice.<\/li>\n<li>Land-based, age-appropriate mobility and strength training. We\u2019ll identify\u2014and begin correcting\u2014common muscular problems such as reciprocal inhibition, synergistic dominance, and asymmetry. The training will improve proprioception, balance, and muscular symmetry.<\/li>\n<li>Athletes will learn ways to approach their training intentionally and mindfully to get the best out of their mental performance, as well as how to process racing\/training experiences effectively.<\/li>\n<li>We\u2019ll significantly improve ergometer technique in order to reap the most benefits from land workouts.<\/li>\n<li>Athletes will learn the basic biomechanics of rowing and the physics of the rowing shell<\/li>\n<li>Campers will have the opportunity to really take time to learn skills, to appreciate oarsmanship as well as to see their sport from a different angle.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: right\"><span style=\"color: #000000\"><strong><em>\u201c<\/em><em>I recently practiced with my coach back home, and my stroke is greatly improved in his eyes. I had a great time practicing with you, and I look forward to keeping in touch throughout the rest of my high school career, and into college.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right\"><span style=\"color: #000000\"><strong>\u2014Recent Camper<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Camps are held at the<span style=\"color: #000000\"> <a style=\"color: #000000\" href=\"https:\/\/aig.uvaalumni.org\/virginiarowing\/about-us\/facilities\/boathouse-rowing-center\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">home of Virginia Rowing<\/a>. Add<\/span>ress is 276 Woodlands Rd, Charlottesville, VA \u00a022901.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: right\"><span style=\"color: #000000\"><strong><em>&#8220;The Wahoo Rowing Camp at UVA is the perfect environment for our rowers to improve their sculling and sweeping skills, and to grow as oarsmen.\u00a0 Over 90% of the rowers we\u2019ve sent have gone on to row in our varsity crews. WRC is the first sculling\/sweeping camp we recommend when a parent or oarsman asks about getting significant development during the summer.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right\"><span style=\"color: #000000\"><strong>\u2014Jim Glavin<br \/>\nHead Coach<br \/>\nSt. Joseph&#8217;s Prep Rowing<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #232d4b\"><strong>COACHES<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Wahoo Rowing Camp is coached by the Virginia Men&#8217;s Rowing Staff.<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #232d4b\"><strong>COST<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Camp fee per week is $1,350 and includes coaching, housing, meals, transportation, and dorm supervision. A $450 non-refundable deposit will be required by the end of March to secure a spot. Their picturesque campus provides us with top notch accommodations and dining facilities.<\/p>\n<p>Campers will be sharing dorm-style rooms with round-the-clock supervision from camp counselors. We can accommodate rooming requests as well as any dietary restrictions; please just let us know!<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<div style=\"text-align: left\"><span style=\"color: #000000\"><strong>&#8220;My son felt that you made his rowing make sense, and he improved dramatically after his week with you. He never truly understood all the mechanics of how he was being told to row back home.
