The exterior of the house is looking much better due in large part to the help and support of alumnus Jim Snyder (\u02bc72). We are now employing a full-service lawn company to take care of the grass, hedges, and everything in between at Jim\u2019s recommendation, and he also personally helped add new flowers and other shrubbery to improve the house\u2019s appearance. The new lawn maintenance company will be a big upgrade from prior years and has already drawn the praise of the undergraduates. Thank you, Jim, for all your help!<\/p>\n
Brothers who lived in the garage will be happy to know that it has undergone extensive repairs and a renovation for the common area on the first floor. Beyond a facelift, the work included replacing the makeshift garage door and paneling \u201cwall\u201d on the Preston Place side of the building with a masonry wall and new windows. On the inside, there is new flooring, cabinets, counters, and appliances. Finally, the bathroom now has a new shower, flooring, sink and toilet.<\/p>\n
After evaluating two bids, the Board awarded the contract to Royal Star Associates, Inc. of Bay Shore, New York. They completed all the work during the second week of September. Those coming to the Homecoming Tailgate should stop by the garage and admire the good work.<\/p>\n
Thanks to a generous contribution from Rob Bentley (\u02bc87), the house has a brand-new GE refrigerator. It arrived just in time for a pre-fall-break party and should give the brothers years of service. And since it\u2019s energy-star rated, it should help keep the power bills down during those years. (Side note: this came about in part because Rob\u2019s daughter Cameron (a fourth year) is in Spence Phillips\u2019 (\u201985) sustainability policy class this fall. Between the last name and a striking resemblance, it wasn\u2019t hard to make the connection. Rob and Spence had the chance to catch up over drinks a few weeks into the semester, and after some reminiscing about mantel diving and catching up on nearly 40 years of personal history, Rob offered to finance the new fridge.)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
