About the Alumni Association Relationship<\/h1>\n

QVA, the University of Virginia\u2019s Queer Alumni Network, is the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) Alumni Interest Group (AIG) of the University of Virginia Alumni Association. Alumni Interest Groups (AIGs) are communities of alumni that share a commonality that have built a tie or bond to each other as part of the University experience.<\/p>\n

The AIG program offers UVA alumni, family and friends opportunities to engage in the life of the University in Charlottesville and as well as regions across the country. These groups are volunteer organizations dedicated to celebrating connections, providing enrichment and continuing the UVA\u2019s tradition of service.<\/p>\n

Formed in 1838, the Alumni Association keeps its members and friends involved in the University\u2019s present. No matter how far away (either in time or location) alumni have traveled from Charlottesville, their views on the governance of today\u2019s University are represented.<\/p>\n

The UVA Fund<\/h1>\n

The Alumni Association serves as QVA’s Fiscal Sponsor in order to support the activities of the University of Virginia and to provide a vehicle to accept and manage gifts on behalf of the University of Virginia. In this capacity, the UVA Fund of the Alumni Association receives grants, tax-deductible contributions, and bequests for QVA’s use in carrying out its educational, charitable, and social welfare services. It also provides management of QVA’s operating accounts and endowment funds.<\/p>\n

Alumni Interest Groups<\/h1>\n

Alumni Interest Groups<\/a> are micro-communities of alumni that share a commonality and have built a tie or bond to each other as part of the University experience. The Alumni Interest Group (AIG) program offers UVA alumni, family, and friends opportunities to engage in the life of the University in several regions across the country. These groups are volunteer organizations dedicated to celebrating connections, providing enrichment and continuing the UVA\u2019s tradition of service.<\/p>\n

These first AIGs developed in the 1990\u2019s and included the Serpentine Society, the Ridley Scholarship Fund<\/a>, the Bol\u00edvar Network<\/a>, the Asian and Asian Pacific American Alumni Network<\/a> (AAPAAN), and the Raven Society<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Over the past few decades, the AIG program has evolved to include fraternity, sorority, and athletics AIGs as well as the Glee Club<\/a>, and Cavalier Daily<\/a> AIGs.<\/p>\n
