9/11 Remembrance

Elmo House draped with American flag to commemorate 9/11Every year on 9/11, some of the brothers climb 110 flights of stairs, the same number the firefighters climbed at the World Trade Center in full gear. It’s not a big production, but it is a way to remember what that day asked of people, and a reminder to show up for someone else, even when it’s hard.

This year’s climb happened at the Lambeth field, where some of the brothers worked through the flights together, instead of racing them one by one. It’s a small thing next to what the day actually represents. We also hung the American flag on the front of the house, like we do every year on the 11th. It’s one of those small rituals that ties the current chapter back to everyone who’s lived in this house before us.
