Dear Brothers,
The Beach is open, the semester is underway, and as always… Elmo makes the world go ‘round.
With students back on Grounds and energy buzzing, we’re thrilled our most recent major renovation is complete.
Thanks to the City’s requirement we meet their code and the fire marshal’s insistence (as well as a significant investment), the Beach is structurally over-built, and fully up to current code with a proper doorway (ARB approved) and additional egress via an exterior rear staircase. No more crawling through windows and, most importantly, everyone can enjoy the space safely for decades to come. We added a drink ledge — again, to meet code — so no more balancing drinks on the railing. New Rule: no glass is allowed on the Elmo Beach.
As alumni, we know this house is more than bricks and mortar — it’s our shared history and future. While the updates were costly, they were absolutely necessary to protect our 100+ year-old historic home.
And now? The Beach is open, safe, and ready for another year of memories. We’ve included a photo of a few undergrads enjoying it this week — proof that your support keeps our traditions strong.
Here’s to another great year at the Elmo house,
Tommy Brannock (Com ’79)
