Dear alumni and friends of The Cavalier Daily,<\/p>\n

I hope you\u2019re all well. As I write this message, it\u2019s a lovely fall day on Grounds, and everyone is getting back into the swing of near-normal life here \u2014 we\u2019re learning in classrooms again, fans are allowed in Scott Stadium, and the news has certainly picked up.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m incredibly grateful for Matt\u2019s leadership as CDAA president in my time as editor, and I\u2019m just as excited to be working with Alexis as she takes on the role. Thank you both for all that you have done and continue to do guiding The Cavalier Daily and engaging our alumni.<\/p>\n

As we enter the second half of our 132nd term, here\u2019s a quick look at just some of what The Cavalier Daily is up to:<\/p>\n

\"Cav<\/p>\n

We\u2019re still in print, producing issues twice monthly this semester<\/strong>. At the onset of the pandemic we reduced our print frequency and maintained round-the-clock COVID-19 coverage. This shift toward digital-first journalism proved to be the most effective, sustainable way to reach our vast audience. Still, we embrace the tradition of getting to celebrate a carefully curated collection of stories through our physical print issues.<\/p>\n

Our most recent edition features the stories of resilience that have prevailed throughout the community, as we all fully readjust and reflect on living and learning on Grounds. Copies are available around Grounds and online<\/a>. Be sure to keep an eye out for our next issue, which hits stands October 14. Print remains a special way to show off the hard work of our writers, photographers and designers \u2014 all made possible by our finance and advertising sections, who support our financial and editorial independence.<\/p>\n

Our digital presence continues to grow.<\/strong> Through our website<\/a>, newsletters<\/a>, and various social media<\/a>, our content reaches over 30,000 readers per week across all six inhabited continents. Each week, a member of our staff has been giving a rundown of the must-know news through our Week in Review on Instagram. It\u2019s proved to be a great way to deliver engaging news to our increasingly online audience while introducing them to a new CD staffer each week. You can find new installments of the week in review posted to our Facebook and Instagram each weekend.<\/p>\n

We\u2019re back in the office \u2014 for the most part.<\/strong> Our teams\u2019 brainstorming and planning meetings are all adjusting to a hybrid format, meaning we get to gather in The Cavalier Daily\u2019s Newcomb office once again. With almost 200 new members joining us this semester, it\u2019s wonderful collaborating and connecting in a shared space. Even co-editors who have been working together remotely for almost a year have been able to meet face-to-face for the first time, making the return to late nights in the office especially surreal and special. We\u2019ve even been making time for real life socials! During recruitment, we got together at 7 a.m. on a Friday to honor the classic combination of decorating Beta Bridge plus a post-painting breakfast at Bodo\u2019s. Most recently, we made a trip to Carter Mountain to pick apples, enjoy the scenery and fresh air, and welcome new members.<\/p>\n
