Maggie Bowden Buchanan<\/strong>\u00a0(Col ’06; opinion editor) and husband Russell welcomed their first child this past July. Bonnie Kyle was born on July 15, 2012. Maggie is enjoying her new life as a stay-at-home mom and recently started her own market research contracting firm specializing in consumer packaged goods.<\/p>\n

Lauren Caldwell<\/strong> (Col ’10; graphics and life editor)\u00a0is pursuing a master’s degree in international relations and international economics, focusing on China and Southeast Asia, at the Johns Hopkins University Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies. She was recently selected to serve as senior editor of The SAIS Review of International Affairs<\/em><\/a>, a twice-yearly academic journal featuring research related to global political, economic and security questions. She is editor-in-chief of The SAIS Observer<\/em>, a monthly student newspaper.<\/p>\n

Daniel Colbert<\/strong> (Col ’09; executive editor) and Kate Resta (Col<\/abbr> class of <\/span>’09) will be married June 1 in Nelson County, Va. He is currently in his first year of law school at Georgetown University.<\/p>\n

James P. Fox<\/strong> (Com ’80; business manager) of Seattle, Wash. died Nov.<\/abbr> 20, 2012. He served on The Cavalier Daily<\/em>‘s production staff before he was elected to the managing board. In spring 1979, when The Cavalier Daily<\/em> refused to submit to the authority of the Board of Visitors’ newly established media board, he was instrumental in keeping the newspaper running. After graduation, he pursued a career in accounting and business management. For nine years he served as vice president and chief financial officer of the Menninger Clinic in Houston, Tex. Stephanie Marie Garcia<\/strong> (Col ’10; tableau<\/em> editor) is channeling her arts and entertainment energy into athletics, as a professional track and field runner for New Balance. Since graduating from UVA’s beloved English department with an M.A., she is currently spending her days training for the upcoming World Championships competition in Moscow, writing a wedding and lifestyle blog<\/a>, and reliving her fall 2012 wedding over and over again.<\/p>\n

Whitney Gruenloh<\/strong> (Col ’08; news editor) will graduate from the Harvard Graduate School of Education this May with a master’s in language and literacy studies. After graduation, she will return to New Orleans to teach first grade at KIPP Believe Primary School.<\/p>\n

Mindy Longanecker <\/strong>(Col ’05; tableau<\/em> editor) joined the staff of the Seattle City Attorney’s Office as an assistant city attorney in Feb.<\/abbr> 2012. She supervises infractions prosecution, and in early 2013 launched the city’s relicensing program, aimed at enabling marginalized citizens to avoid prosecution and conviction for certain minor misdemeanor\u00a0licensing charges.<\/p>\n

Thomas Madrecki<\/strong> (Col ’10; managing editor) is now strategic communications manager at the United Parcel Service’s public affairs and lobbying office in Washington D.C. Previously, he was the press manager for Smart Growth America. Madrecki is also an amateur chef and his supper club, Chez Le Commis<\/a>, has been featured in numerous media outlets, including The Washington Post<\/em> and Washingtonian Magazine<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Andy Mullan<\/strong> (Col ’08; news associate) recently moved to sunny San Francisco to take a new position with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. He spent all December going to the beach and eating fresh produce from his local farmer’s market. Life is sweet.<\/p>\n

Richard A. Rilee<\/strong> (Col ’63; staff writer) of Cardinal, Va. died Nov.<\/abbr> 18, 2012. He was a staff member\u00a0of The Cavalier Daily\u00a0<\/em>and the\u00a0Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity. [from “In Memoriam<\/a>” in Spring 2013 issue of Virginia Magazin<\/em>e]\n

Maria Tchijov<\/strong> (Col ’08; life editor) recently\u00a0join the team at MoveOn, after nearly two years working at the consumer rights organization Food & Water Watch.\u00a0\u00a0She is still living in San Francisco with husband Jordan Buller<\/strong> (Col ’08; operations manager), who is busy running an advertising start-up. Outside of work, they are enjoying hanging out with the growing number of Cavalier Daily<\/em> alums in San Francisco.<\/p>\n
