The Bol\u00edvar Network Hosts Virtual Award Brunch Honoring Valerie Gregory with the inaugural Valerie Gregory Impact Award, Wayne Cozart with Pablo J. Davis Award, and three undergraduate students with annual Book Scholarships\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

On Saturday, December 5th at 11:00am, the Bol\u00edvar Network, UVA’s network for Hispanic\/Latinx\/Latino alumni, hosted a Virtual Awards Brunch honoring the recipients of our annual Book Scholarship Award, the Pablo J. Davis Award, and announced a new impact award, the Valerie Gregory Award, along with its inaugural recipient.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Bol\u00edvar Network is excited to announce that this year, three Latinx students received the Bol\u00edvar Network Book Scholarship for the 2020-2021 cycle. The Book Scholarship, which provides individual $1,000 scholarships to each recipient to help defray the costs of textbooks and other expenses,\u00a0 seeks to identify Latinx students who stand out in areas of academic achievement, leadership and service. Congratulations to <\/span>Alisa Negr\u00f3n (\u201921)<\/b>, <\/span>Natalie Mar Cordero (\u201922)<\/b>, and <\/span>Tamara Moscovich (\u201921). <\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Bol\u00edvar Network is pleased to announce a\u00a0 re-launching of its annual <\/span>Pablo J. Davis Award<\/b>. The Pablo J. Davis Award seeks to identify a University of Virginia staff member, Alum, faculty member, or Charlottesville resident whose work has contributed significantly to the advancement of the Latinx\/Hispanic community.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The 2020 Recipient of the Pablo J. Davis Award is <\/span>Wayne Cozart<\/b><\/a>! The Bol\u00edvar Network is very grateful to Wayne\u2019s early and ongoing support of our organization. In light of today\u2019s growing diversity at the University, having a strong Latinx alumni network to support students and fellow alumni is so powerful and essential. His friendship and leadership gave our group legitimacy, critical contacts of early alumni, and necessary infrastructure. As Wayne ascends into retirement, we would like to honor his contributions to UVA, <\/span>Jefferson Trust<\/span><\/a>, Alumni Association, and the Bol\u00edvar Network.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Bol\u00edvar Network is also pleased to announce the creation of its new Impact Award! The Impact Award is distinct in that its recognition is only provided for clearly extraordinary efforts to serve the Latinx community at UVA and\/or in the Charlottesville community at large. This award has no specific cycle; rather it is intended for remarkable candidates if and when the Bol\u00edvar Network deems they are qualified.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Bol\u00edvar Network is proud to announce that the inaugural Recipient of the Impact Award is <\/span>Valerie Gregory<\/b><\/a> and the <\/span>award will be named after her as the Valerie Gregory Impact Award<\/b>! Before her recent retirement, Valerie Gregory served as Associate Dean of Admission at UVA for over 20 years. In this role, Dean Gregory has directly contributed to impressive gains in minority student enrollment at UVA. During the event, several attendees shared their fond memories of life-changing moments and conversations with Valerie Gregory as prospective students.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
