Graduate: Jeronimo Lau Alberdi (Law<\/abbr> class of <\/span>’27)<\/h3>\n

\n

\"Jeronimo<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Jeronimo Lau Alberdi<\/a> teaches Constitutional Law, Constitutional Litigation, Judicial Politics, and Comparative Constitutional Law at Universidad Austral<\/a> in Argentina. He is working toward a Doctor of Juridical Science (S.J.D.) at the University of Virginia School of Law. His research focuses on how and why judges in Latin America use foreign law in constitutional cases.<\/p>\n

He earned his law degree and a Master of Laws (LL.M.) from Universidad Austral in Argentina and also holds an LL.M. from Georgetown University Law Center. Before joining academia, he practiced constitutional and administrative law in Buenos Aires and argued cases before Argentina\u2019s Supreme Court.<\/p>\n

He has received awards and scholarships for his academic work and has published articles in law journals on constitutional theory and comparative law.<\/p>\n

Jeronimo was president of the Legal Research Forum<\/a> at the University of Virginia School of Law from 2023 to 2025 and served as vice-chair for graduate students at the University Judiciary Council<\/a> from 2024 to 2025.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Graduate: Krystal Rubio Repak (Nurs<\/abbr> class of <\/span>’27)<\/h3>\n

\"Krystal<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Krystal Rubio Repak is a first-year graduate student in the Clinical Nurse Leader program at the University of Virginia School of Nursing. She was born and raised in Richmond, Virginia, and now lives in Charlottesville. She earned her B.A. in Spanish from the University of Virginia in 2023. During her undergraduate years, she studied abroad through the UVA in Valencia<\/a> program, an experience that strengthened her language skills, cultural understanding and global perspective through academic immersion and an internship in Spain.<\/p>\n

Wanting to apply her language skills in a meaningful way, Krystal was actively involved in volunteer work with the Charlottesville Free Clinic<\/a>, where she devoted particular attention to the \u201cCl\u00ednica Gratuita\u201d nights. These clinics offered patients a fully Spanish- language experience from start to finish, which allowed her to engage more deeply in service and patient support. She is grateful to the CFC for serving the community and giving her a glimpse into nursing.<\/p>\n

She continues to serve the community through her church and through the UVA Latino Health Initiative<\/a>. Through this program, she helps provide free cardiovascular health screenings and contributes to public education on health-related topics throughout the year. She is committed to reducing language barriers and increasing access to healthcare within the community.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Undergraduate: Camila Ramirez Herrera (Col<\/abbr> class of <\/span>’27)<\/h3>\n

Camila Ramirez Herrera is a third-year student at the University of Virginia majoring in neuroscience with a minor in general business on the pre-med track. Camila works as a medical assistant in UVA\u2019s Cardiovascular Surgery Clinic, where she supports patients and families throughout their surgical care journey and contributes to community education initiatives. She is also an undergraduate researcher focused on improving healthcare access and support resources for caregivers of children with complex medical needs.<\/p>\n

Beyond the classroom and clinic, Camila serves as the professional development co-chair for the Latino Medical Student Association<\/a> (LMSA+), volunteers as a Spanish interpreter at the Charlottesville Free Clinic<\/a>, and serves a student ambassador for the Alzheimer\u2019s Association<\/a>. She also tutors young violin students who cannot afford private lessons, reinforcing the importance of arts access and creative expression in the community.<\/p>\n

Grounded in her lived experiences as a first-generation Latina, these roles have shaped her commitment to advancing equitable and culturally responsive healthcare for underserved and marginalized communities. Camila hopes to become a physician who serves as a compassionate bridge for individuals and families who often feel unseen or unheard within the healthcare system.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Undergraduate: Chris Popovics (Col<\/abbr> class of <\/span>’26)<\/h3>\n

\n

Chris was born and raised in Alexandria, Virginia. He is a fourth-year Echols Scholar in the College of Arts and Sciences pursuing majors in chemistry and biology alongside a minor in general business through the McIntire School of Commerce on a pre-medical track.<\/p>\n

At UVA, he serves as the co-professional development chair for the Latino Medical Student Association<\/a> (LMSA+), where he organizes events for pre-health students in the Latin American community and the greater UVA pre-health community to come together to develop themselves as candidates for their future careers. He has also been involved as a VISAS<\/a> language consultant, a mentor in the Latinx Peer Mentoring Program<\/a>, and a member of a previous Latinx Leadership Institute<\/a> cohort.<\/p>\n

Professionally, Chris has volunteered as a Spanish medical interpreter for the Little Workers of the Sacred Hearts<\/a>, a pro bono clinic located in Washington, D.C. He has also worked as a certified pharmacy technician for six years, a teaching assistant for General Chemistry for two and a half years, a pre-health advising peer for the Career Center<\/a> for two years, and a research assistant for one year. Through these roles, he has gained experience and knowledge that will aid him on his journey in pursuing a healthcare career.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Elisa is a member of the Class of 2025 at the UVA School of Medicine, where she is pursuing a dual MD\/PhD degree. Born in Mexico, she moved to the United States at the age of nine. Passionate about eliminating language barriers in healthcare, Elisa volunteers with the Charlottesville Free Clinic and the UVA Latino Health Initiative (LHI). She also serves as the Language and Culture Development Chair for the Latino Medical Student Association (LMSA) at UVA.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Ziana was born in Florida and raised in North Philadelphia. She is a third-year student at the University of Virginia’s McIntire School of Commerce, concentrating in Management and IT. As a low-income Afro-Latina student, Ziana is passionate about expanding access to education, technology, and opportunity in underrepresented communities.<\/p>\n

At UVA, she serves as President of the Afro-Latinx Student Organization and Vice President of the SoulAAN Student Union, where she advocates for cultural celebration and community empowerment. She also tutors middle and high school students in Charlottesville, aiming to provide the kind of educational support she didn’t always have access to growing up.<\/p>\n

Professionally, Ziana has worked with Booz Allen Hamilton and PwC, applying consulting strategies to support nonprofits and mission-driven organizations. She also worked at an immigration law firm, supporting families through complex legal systems\u2014an experience that deepened her commitment to social impact.<\/p>\n

Currently studying abroad at ESADE Business School in Barcelona, Ziana is exploring global business strategy while preparing for a future that blends consulting, technology, and entrepreneurship to uplift communities like the one that raised her.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Sabrina Mato was born in Cuba and immigrated to the United States at 10 years old. She studied international affairs and political science at Florida State University and then worked at the Department of Justice with immigrant employee rights. Currently, she is completing her third year at the law school where she has focused on immigration, employment and international law. She also serves as the President of the Latin American Law Organization. Sabrina is committed to bridging the gap between UVA and the local Latinx community through intentional collaboration and volunteering initiatives.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Fernando Casarotti<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Fernando Casarotti<\/strong> is a member of the Class of 2024 at the Darden School of Business, where he is pursuing his MBA. Fernando was born in the countryside of Brazil. In addition to serving as a volunteer professor in his home country, he also worked with incarcerated minors in Brazil. He also managed an initiative to produce and distribute 1,000+ masks to families in the Brazilian countryside during the COVID-19 pandemic. He is involved with the Latin American Student Association at Darden (LASA) and the Consulting Club. He is also highly involved with the Darden Admissions Teams, where he seeks to support his peers and enhance their Darden experience.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Mar\u00eda Jos\u00e9 Corval\u00e1n Caba\u00f1as<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

MJ Corval\u00e1n Caba\u00f1as<\/strong> is a member of the Class of 2023. She is majoring in Economics in the College, minoring in Foreign Affairs, AND she is ALSO pursuing her Master\u2019s in Public Policy at the Batten School! MJ was born and raised in Paraguay, and came to the States when she was 13 years old. She serves as the Spanish Translation Editor for The Cavalier Daily, where she expanded the Spanish translation section so translators can also write original content articles in Spanish on topics exclusively relevant to the Latinx community that could later be translated to English for wider access. She joined the Cavalier Daily team because she is passionate about the importance of combatting disinformation in Latinx communities. She is also a Education Policy Associate at the Virginia Policy Partnership Collaborative, an Economics Tutor, a member of the Batten Latinx Network Executive team, and a leader in Kappa Alpha Theta.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Anthony Guevara<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Anthony Guevara<\/strong> is a Salvadoran-Honduran member of the Class of 2023 majoring in Latin American Studies and minoring in Latinx Studies. His many organizational involvements include Central Americans for Empowerment at UVA (CAFE), the Latinx Peer Mentoring Program (PMP), and the Afro-Latinx Student Organization (ALSO). They also spearheaded change at the Native American Student Organization (NASU) by advocating for the inclusion of Southern Native students and their perspectives. Anthony is passionate about media representation. He hopes to work with Latinos in both the United States and Latin America \u2013 especially those often ignored by the general public such as Indigenous Latin Americans, rural-living Latin Americans, Black Latin Americans, etc.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Paola Linares<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Paola Linares<\/strong> is a Puerto Rican and Peruvian student of the Class of 2023. She is an Echols Scholar majoring in Political & Social Thought in the College and minoring in Public Policy and Leadership in Batten. She is currently working on a thesis about the sterilization of Puerto Rican women and how it is being remembered. In addition to being a Lawn Room Resident, she works as a Rotunda Student Ambassador and serves as the Co-President of the immigrant rights organization undocuUVA and the President of Omega Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated \u2013 which she helped revive alongside four other strong women at UVA.
