Board members serve a three-year term and are elected every spring.<\/p>\n<p>Key Responsibilities:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Serve a three-year term<\/li>\n<li>Attend Board meetings twice a year<\/li>\n<li>Donate at least $100 annually to AAPAAN (to the best of one\u2019s ability). The donation can be to AAPAAN\u2019s general operating funds or to the AAPAAN Scholarship fund.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>AAPAAN Student Representative<\/h3>\n<p>Purpose: This student will serve as liaison between UVA\u2019s AAPI student organizations and AAPAAN, ensuring student voices are represented in alumni programming and fostering intergenerational connections. Student representatives serve a one-year term on the Board of Directors.<\/p>\n<p>Key Responsibilities:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Attend AAPAAN Board Meetings (1\u20132 per semester) to share student perspectives and needs<\/li>\n<li>Promote AAPAAN events (e.g., YARden, Asian Alumni Weekend, mentorship programs) to student groups via listservs, social media, and club meetings<\/li>\n<li>Partner with the Major Events Chair to integrate student performances or speakers into alumni programming<\/li>\n<li>Advocate for student priorities (e.g., AAPI resource centers, scholarships) in AAPAAN discussions<\/li>\n<li>Gather student feedback on AAPAAN initiatives and report insights to the Alumni Engagement Committee<\/li>\n<li>Submit a year-end summary of student engagement highlights (e.g., event turnout, mentorship matches)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>Scholarship Committee<\/h2>\n<h3>Application Reviewer<\/h3>\n<p>Purpose: To serve on the selection committee responsible for reviewing applications and identifying individuals who are deserving of receiving the four $5,000 AAPAAN scholarships.<\/p>\n<p>Key Responsibilities:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>January-March:\n<ul>\n<li>Conduct a electronic review of student&#8217;s scholarship applications and make recommendations to the Committee Chair<\/li>\n<li>Attend virtual committee meetings (approximately two-three) to determine the final four selections.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>April:\n<ul>\n<li>If available, attend the AAPAAN Spring Celebration on Grounds to present the scholarships to the recipients<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>Alumni Engagement Committee<\/h2>\n<h3>Activities Chair<\/h3>\n<p>Purpose: Execute high-impact events that foster community and belonging. This position serves a two-year term on the Alumni Engagement Committee. Please note:\u00a0 Alumni Engagement Committee Chairs are not members of the Board of Directors.<\/p>\n<p>Key Responsibilities:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Lead planning for 2\u20133 events during the spring and fall (total of 4-6 events per year)<\/li>\n<li>Coordinate logistics (venues, catering, volunteers) with support from the Marketing Intern<\/li>\n<li>Partner with UVA student organizations and Multicultural Student Services staff for collaborative events<\/li>\n<li>Gather post-event feedback to improve future programming<\/li>\n<li>Submit a year-end summary of activity highlights to the Alumni Engagement Committee<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Major Events Chair<\/h3>\n<p>Purpose: Lead AAPAAN\u2019s two main events\u2014the fall YARden Party and spring Asian Alumni Weekend. This position serves a two-year term on the Alumni Engagement Committee. Please note:\u00a0 Alumni Engagement Committee Chairs are not members of the Board of Directors.<\/p>\n<p>Key Responsibilities:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Serve as the primary point of contact for all aspects of YARden (October) and Asian Alumni Weekend (April), as well as attending both events in-person<\/li>\n<li>Develop event timelines, budgets, and run-of-show plans in collaboration with the AAPAAN board and UVA Alumni Association<\/li>\n<li>Coordinate with the UVA Alumni Association and other key stakeholders for event planning<\/li>\n<li>Gather feedback on the major initiatives and report insights to the Alumni Engagement Committee<\/li>\n<li>Submit a brief report to the Alumni Engagement Committee with lessons learned and recommendations for the next year<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Mentorship Chair<\/h3>\n<p>Purpose: Facilitate meaningful alumni-student professional mentorship. This position serves a two-year term on the Alumni Engagement Committee. Please note:\u00a0 Alumni Engagement Committee Chairs are not members of the Board of Directors.<\/p>\n<p>Key Responsibilities:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Manage the AAPAAN Mentorship Program (matching, check-ins, evaluations)<\/li>\n<li>Recruit mentors and mentees via newsletters, social media, and outreach events<\/li>\n<li>Host 2\u20133 mentorship events\/year (career workshops, networking nights)<\/li>\n<li>Assess program impact through surveys and feedback<\/li>\n<li>Gather feedback on mentorship initiatives and report insights to the Alumni Engagement Committee<\/li>\n<li>Submit a year-end summary of mentorship highlights to the Alumni Engagement Committee<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Outreach Chair<\/h3>\n<p>Purpose: Strengthen ties between AAPAAN and alumni and students through intentional engagement. This position serves a two-year term on the Alumni Engagement Committee. Please note:\u00a0 Alumni Engagement Committee Chairs are not members of the Board of Directors.<\/p>\n<p>Key Responsibilities:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Maintain and grow the alumni contact database (track engagement metrics)<\/li>\n<li>Collaborate with UVA Alumni Association, UVA Clubs and their respective regional officers, and other alumni interest groups (e.g., shared events, regional outreach)<\/li>\n<li>Organize 1\u20132 networking events during the spring and fall, for a total of 2-4 events per year (virtual or in-person, e.g., regional meetups, class reunions)<\/li>\n<li>Assist the Mentorship Chair in alumni mentor recruitment<\/li>\n<li>Gather feedback on outreach initiatives and report insights to the Alumni Engagement Committee<\/li>\n<li>Submit a year-end summary of outreach highlights to the Alumni Engagement Committee<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>Marketing and Social Media<\/h2>\n<h3>Marketing Intern<\/h3>\n<p>Purpose: Enhance AAPAAN&#8217;s visibility and engagement with the alumni community through digital media efforts.<\/p>\n<p>Key Responsibilities:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Create at least two posts and\/or pieces of content for social media per week and newsletter drafts needed on a case-by-case basis (event promo, alumni spotlights, student spotlights, etc.)<\/li>\n<li>Track engagement metrics (email open rates, social media reach)<\/li>\n<li>Design graphics and videos for events, with guidance from the Activities Chair<\/li>\n<li>Suggest creative strategies to boost online engagement<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a class=\"btn btn-orange\" href=\"https:\/\/aig.uvaalumni.org\/aapaan\/about-aapaan\/leadership-application\/\">Submit Your Application<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Board of Directors Board Member Purpose: Board members help plan events, coordinate our scholarship and mentorship programs, and shape the future of the national UVA APA network.
